Introduction to Spanish

This three-session class is designed for people without any Spanish language background. Your instructor will introduce you to Spanish pronunciation, basic vocabulary, and social protocols.

Introductory Spanish classes are open to both LCS members and non-members. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 12 students, with a minimum of four students.

About your instructor:

Gayla Doucet is an experienced language instructor with teaching credentials in both the USA and Canada, where she has taught Spanish, French and ESL (English as a Second Language). In addition to a career in academics, she worked as a special project manager for IBM Canada Ltd. where she trained and supported business professionals across Canada in learning and applying newly developed software. Gayla is a 6-year resident of Lakeside.

El viaje a México — Spanish conversation

Welcome to “El viaje a México” (Journey into Mexico) where you will need all your Spanish to complete this trip.

Journey into Mexico is a simulation of arriving at the Mexico/US border, and also preparing a trip to Mexico City. Travel through our border zone experiencing realistic travel-oriented situations, while conversing with native Spanish speakers. Visit the bank, the pharmacy, a restaurant, and go through immigration and customs. You'll soon be ready to travel anywhere your Spanish takes you!

This is an activity for anyone who wants to practice their Spanish in a semi-controlled environment while having fun. You'll discover that you actually know more Spanish than you think.

Spanish A La Carta

This is an online program from LCS for its members, learners, and practitioners of Spanish. Our offerings include sessions to improve Spanish pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills.

Each program consists of two or more ZOOM sessions, of about 80 minutes each. For some classes, material will be sent by email prior to the class for you to read so that your participation is smoother, and you can get the most out of the class.

Spanish A La Carta classes are open to all current LCS members. Your membership must be active to enroll, and must remain active for the duration of the classes.

Class size is limited to 10 persons. Students can enroll on-line, and pay the tuition with a credit card.
